SubletSync ("we," "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide:
- Name, email address, phone number when you create an account
- University and graduation year (optional)
- Listing details: address, photos, description, pricing, availability
- Messages sent to other users through the platform
- Profile photo (optional)
Information collected automatically:
- IP address and general location
- Browser type and device information
- Pages visited and actions taken on the platform
- Cookies and similar tracking technologies
2. How We Use Your Information
- To create and manage your account
- To display your listings to other users
- To facilitate messaging between users
- To verify your identity and trust level
- To send you transactional emails (account confirmation, messages, listing updates)
- To improve the platform and fix bugs
- To prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Service
- To comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
3. Information Shared With Others
Other users: Your name, profile photo, university (if provided), and verification status are visible to other users. Your email and phone number are not publicly displayed.
Service providers: We share data with trusted third-party services that help us operate the platform:
- Supabase — database and authentication hosting
- Vercel — website hosting and deployment
- Stripe — payment processing and identity verification (when applicable)
These providers are contractually bound to protect your data and may not use it for their own purposes.
Legal requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of SubletSync and its users.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on Supabase servers located in the United States (us-east-1). We implement industry-standard security measures including row-level security, encrypted connections (TLS), and access controls.
No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data.
5. Cookies
SubletSync uses cookies and localStorage to maintain your session and remember your preferences. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but some features of the platform may not function correctly.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
- Correction — update incorrect or incomplete data via your profile settings
- Deletion — request deletion of your account and associated data
- Portability — request your data in a machine-readable format
- Opt-out — unsubscribe from non-transactional emails at any time

7. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Listing text is retained for historical purposes; listing photos are purged after 6 months of expiry. You may request deletion of your account at any time.
8. Children's Privacy
SubletSync is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
9. California Residents (CCPA)
California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to delete it, and the right to opt out of its sale. 10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or a notice on the platform. Continued use of SubletSync after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
